Winning form in National pony racing

Canfordians develop a wide and varied range of talents, which makes them interesting and engaging young people as individuals and results in a rich and diverse school community.   One such pupil is Shell Digby Shepherd who has shown determination and achieved much success through his particular talent for Shetland pony racing over the past five years.

He took up Grand National racing five years ago and since then has won at some of the most exciting venues in the country, including Epsom Downs, Newmarket and Windsor race courses, and at Badminton, Olympia and Liverpool International Horse Shows (pictured right in blue winning at Liverpool).

His talent is such that he was selected to perform at the Queen’s official 90th birthday pageant and was one of only six young riders chosen to race a one-off Queen’s birthday race at Royal Windsor course, sporting Her Majesty’s racing colours.   He won the race in front of thousands of spectators!

Digby has put his racing talents to good use, raising thousands of pounds for Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Bob Champion Cancer Trust and his achievements have been profiled in both The Times and The Daily Telegraph.

Everyone at Canford wishes Digby continued enjoyment with his racing and every success for the future.
