National Poetry Day 2016

Pupils and staff across the school celebrated National Poetry Day on Thursday 6th October.

This year's theme was 'messages' and the Canford library developed this with a 'Your Postcard Poem' challenge.  All week, pupils and staff have been filling in postcards with a poem, message or quote of their choice.  Completed postcards have been displayed in the library for all to enjoy.

There has been a true international flavour to the event, with messages in Greek, Thai and French so far.   There has also been a range of poetry, from humour through to very moving and thought-provoking pieces.   The Fifth Form, who are studying 'Great Expectations' as part of their GCSE course, completed postcards with quotes from the text, with Shell English also getting involved during their lessons this week.

Many thanks to the library staff for encouraging us all to get our literary thinking caps on this week!
