Community Action City Reach trip to Fairthorne Manor

Over the weekend of 24/25 September, Canford pupils and staff took a group from the inner city community of Northam for an activity trip to Fairthorne Manor.   This has become an annual event in the school Community Action calendar, with Canfordians having just as much fun as the children!   Lower Sixth Former Claudia Jacobs takes up the story:

“Myself and nine other Canfordians went to Fairthorne Manor in Hampshire to aid the annual City Reach trip.  During the visit we participated in a number of activities with the children and we all particularly enjoyed the kayaking and raft building (during which myself and others got very wet!).   I had the chance to get to know both the children and the teenage volunteers, and it was also a good opportunity to talk to fellow Canford pupils I don’t generally come across.   All in all the trip was fantastic and I would do it again at the drop of a hat - but not without the planning and organisation by Mr Allen and Miss Bennett. Thank you!”

Canfordian Rupert Talfourd-Cook echoed these thoughts:

"The sound of laughter and the sight of many smiling faces were apparent at every activity and the children's enthusiasm was infectious. Many of these activities taught both the children and Canfordians new skills, whilst improving teamwork and overcoming old fears. Activities didn’t cease in the evenings either. The first night featured games on the pirate ship playground, whilst on the second we sang loudly around the campfire. Before settling down for the night hot chocolates were passed around, much to the delight of the children. The Fairthorne Manor weekend helped Canfordians make a real difference to young people's lives whilst cementing friendships and strengthening Canford's bond with the City Reach project."

Thank you to everyone involved in ensuring this was another memorable weekend for the Northam children.
