Tanzania Partnership Trip 2016

From the 4th July to the 20th July eleven Sixth Formers and three staff travelled to Tanzania to work at the Light in Africa orphanage in the shadow of Kilimanjaro run by the inspiring 'Mama Lynn'.  During the trip, the Canford group was tasked with repainting the inside of Pilgrim's House, which provides accommodation for boys from the age of 7.   They also spent time organising activities for both the younger and older children in the orphanage, ranging from painting to necklace making, and helped improve their understanding of English through reading to them each day.

Canfordians raise funds back in the UK to help support various projects at the orphanage.  This year the money was used to set up a food kitchen and run a medical outreach centre offering advice and medicines such as antibiotics.

The group also had the chance to experience the culture of the country, with a cultural evening in Moshi and a two day safari.

The trip was a life changing one for our pupils, opening their eyes to the wider world and giving a great sense of pride and satisfaction in helping the Light in Africa project in some small way.   For a pupil account of the visit, please click here
