Walk for Louis - Thursday 30th June 2016

Over the Christmas holiday the Canford community was shaken by the tragic death of Lower Sixth pupil Louis Ross in a skiing accident. The Ross family are proud of the legacy Louis leaves and have set up a foundation to make a difference to the lives of young people in the local area. Already many initiatives have been undertaken to raise money, including mufti days, a lip sync battle and sponsored haircuts!

At the end of this academic year, the whole school community came together on a sponsored walk, to remember Louis and to support the foundation.  Pupils across all year groups, together with many staff including Headmaster Ben Vessey, walked either 14 or 20 miles from the Salisbury area to Wimborne, negotiating muddy fields and water logged tracks.  The first group arrived back along Lady Wimborne Drive at 3pm and everyone completed the challenge by 5pm which was a fantastic achievement.

This was a wonderful way to remember Louis and to bring the school community together at the end of the academic year.  For more images from the day, please CLICK HERE.

The Louis Ross Foundation has been established to help young people in difficulty and to remember and reflect Louis’ compassion and kindness and his ability to unite people through friendship. The Foundation is broad in its aims but will specifically focus on helping young people by providing grants and services. Causes to support we have so far identified include a homelessness charity based in Boscombe, Poole Young Carers Charity and Portfield Autistic School. We hope to be able to support both these and other worthwhile causes
