Ten Tors Training

Staff and pupils enjoyed near perfect walking conditions on Dartmoor this weekend whilst training for the 2016 Ten Tors event.  The Ten Tors is a challenge organised by the Army that caters solely for young people.  Teams face hikes of 35, 45 or 55 miles over the rough terrain of Dartmoor, visiting ten nominated tors / check points in under two days.  The teams must be self-sufficient, carrying all that they need to complete their route and stay out over night safely.

For our staff and pupils this weekend, a biting northerly wind accompanied clear and unobstructed views as the 21 fourth formers set off from Okehampton army camp on their walk south to Postbridge via Fernworthy reservoir; learning the art of navigation en route.  All came off the Moor tired and aching but still managing a smile ahead of the main challenge at Dartmoor on the 7th May.
