Canford School Pupils Selected for Lambs U16 Rugby Squad

Canford School is celebrating success for two pupils, Tom Patrick and Brennan Dyball, who have been selected for the Lambs U16 National Rugby Squad.

The Lambs is the RFU squad for independent schools.  It aims to create openings for selected boys to showcase their rugby skills at a representative level.  The squad of 27 has been chosen following 150 initial nominations and a trial for 80 boys at Uppingham School on Sunday 14th February.

Twenty-three schools are represented within the final squad, with Canford being one of only four schools in the country to have two pupils selected.

Speaking following the squad announcement, Lambs National Director Alex Layborne said:

“Today saw a high standard of players from all over the country and selection has been tough for James Melville (U16s Manager) and his management team.  We are happy that the squad selected will be able to fulfill our ‘Fast and Free’ philosophy and that this group will produce some great rugby in the Lambs U16s first year.  The fixture list will be tough, but also allows the players to show what the program is all about, as well as showcasing their talents and the development their schools have put into them.”

Peter Short, Director of Rugby at Canford, commented:

“Tom and Brennan faced strong competition from top independent schools across the UK including Eton and Harrow.  We are all very proud of their excellent achievement.  It is also national recognition of Canford’s commitment to player development and to the strength and quality of school rugby.  Both players were part of the Canford Colts team which won the County championship for the second consecutive year this season.  We all wish Tom and Brennan every success with the Lambs squad.”

The new U16s are set for a hugely exciting couple of months, with fixtures again Worcester Warriors, Yorkshire U17s, and Saracens
