CANFORD GOLF CLUB
Canford School can boast one of the best on-site school golf courses in the country, whilst only 9 holes if has varying tees, water hazards and challenging greens, if you can score well on this course you are having a very good round!
The squad is directed by Neil Watkins assisted by Steve Ronaldson and Gary Shaw with the overview and professional expertise supplied by Kelly Hanwell PGA Professional. Players are drawn from every age group in the school, this ability to mix the boys and girls in competitive teams golf at Canford results in a lively and fun environment.
A good number of our golfers play off single-figure handicaps, with another group just above this and improving fast.
Virtually all matches, friendly and competitive are played off scratch, and the school has, for the past ten years, fared well against some of the most prestigious independent schools in the country.
Our best golfers represent their respective counties and regularly acquit themselves well in regional and national competitions. A few have also progressed onto golf scholarships and American Universities.
When numbers and fixtures permit, we field 'B' and 'C' teams and our junior section is steadily growing. There are ample opportunities for beginners and intermediate standard golfers at Canford and instruction with our PGA coach can be readily organised.
The school golf is enthusiastically supported by a thriving Old Canfordian Golfing Society with whom we have regular contact, and into which many of our leavers progress.
For anyone who is serious about golf, Canford has become an obvious school to consider and for many, a school of first choice.
